Pivot Charter School Riverside became a hub of civic engagement when Corona Mayor Tom Richins and Carolina Cardenas, Representative for Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes, visited the campus for an enlightening discussion with students on October 9. The visit underscored Pivot’s dedication to individualizing education for each student and providing opportunities to go beyond the computers and classroom walls, offering students a unique chance to interact directly with local leaders and explore how government affects their daily lives.
“We were honored to welcome Mayor Richins and Representative Cardenas to our school,” said Jayna Gaskell, Executive Director of Pivot Charter Schools. “Their presence provided our students with invaluable insights into the essential role of public service.”
Throughout the visit, Mayor Richins and Representative Cardenas engaged students in discussions about local government responsibilities, the importance of civic participation and how individuals can effect change in their communities. The students asked thoughtful questions on topics such as leadership and policy, fostering a meaningful dialogue that deepened their understanding of public service.
“I was truly impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and curiosity,” shared Mayor Richins. “It is encouraging to see the younger generation so engaged and eager to contribute to their community’s future.”
Reinforcing Pivot’s mission of empowering students through real-world experiences, the visit inspired students to see themselves as active participants in shaping their futures.
