For Julia Curtis, a graduating senior at Pivot Riverside, the school offered flexibility and a path to success on her own terms. Through her experience at Pivot, Julia found an academic environment that challenged and empowered her.
“Pivot helped me build a routine that worked for me, socialize in ways I was comfortable with, and still have time for hobbies and volunteering,” she shared.
Julia took full advantage of Advanced Placement courses and concurrent enrollment, which helped her develop strong study habits and dive deeper into subjects she loved. She also had a strong support system in Educational Coordinator Mackenzie Jessip and Academic Counselor Luis Portilla, who helped her maximize these educational opportunities.
“Luis helped me navigate college applications and financial aid, and Mackenzie supported me every step of the way. I wouldn’t be graduating without their help,” she added.
As a result of her determination, drive, and clear passion for science, Julia has been accepted to UC Davis where she will be studying biology to pursue a future in research. With a strong foundation built through college-level coursework at Pivot, she feels confident and prepared for this next step.
Julia’s academic excellence and personal growth was recognized beyond her acceptance to UC Davis. She was also awarded the prestigious Riverside County Exceptional Scholar Award, a moment Julia described as incredibly validating.
“It felt like a reflection of the effort I’ve put into my education and my growth in advocating for myself,” she shared.
Her advice to other Pivot students? “Ask for help. Use the resources available. Don’t struggle in silence because support is there.”
Pivot is incredibly proud to celebrate Julia’s accomplishments and can’t wait to see what she’ll achieve next!
